Cielo Verde Strengthens Role in National Cannabis Research Initiative

Pointe-Claire, Québec – February 9, 2026. Cielo Verde, Québec-based licensed cannabis producer, is proud to announce its renewed research partnership with the McGill University-led NSERC-CREATE Quality Assurance and Quality Control for Cannabis Production, Products and Training Program (QAQCC).

This collaboration brings together academic excellence, federal support, and industry leadership to help shape the future of regulated, high-quality cannabis production in Canada.

The research initiative is conducted under the supervision of Dr. Mark Lefsrud, Professor in the Department of Bioresource Engineering at McGill University, Head of the Biomass Production Lab, and Director of the NSERC-CREATE QAQCC program. Under his leadership, the partnership will explore how indoor environmental conditions influence cannabis crop yield and the development of cannabinoid content – including THC, CBD, minor cannabinoids, and terpenes- key factors in product quality and production efficiency.

“By studying environmental optimization in active cultivation conditions, we can help drive cannabis cultivation toward more efficient, sustainable, and economically viable practices,” said Dr. Lefsrud.

Through this partnership, Cielo Verde reinforces its commitment to science-driven innovation, product quality, and sustainable production practices.

“Through our work within the McGill University–led QAQCC research program, we are strengthening our ability to produce consistent, high-quality cannabis using more sustainable cultivation practices, while contributing to the advancement of cannabis quality standards in Canada and internationally,” said Barry Laxer, CEO of Cielo Verde.

By combining academic rigor, regulatory collaboration, and commercial expertise, Cielo Verde’s research partnership with the QAQCC positions Québec as a key contributor to the evolution of evidence-based cannabis production in Canada and furthers Québec’s ongoing role as a leader in Canadian and international cannabis production.
